Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I’ve tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.

Robert Frost wrote this poem in 1920, shortly after the end of World War

when the results were obvious and horrific…when 60,000 young Can Canadians died

including Uncle Jack who I would never meet.

Today we are seeing the resurfacing of fire and ice in the Gaza Strip where Hamas

sent killers loose with one purpose in mind…To kill Jews.

Perhaps we need something to sooth our nerves … to dampen our apprehension of

evils yet to surface….to hope a resolution is possible even though we might feel

as Robert Frost did in 1920. A century ago.
