(FARM ABANDONED ON COLLINGWOOD  ROAD)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\u201cSO, WHO BELIEVES IN GHOSTS?\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">alan skeoch<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">May 2018<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">The house and barn were abandoned &nbsp;a long time ago. &nbsp;People just walked away leaving everything behind\u2026furniture, farm equipment, last mail delivery. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">I bet some of you noticed the place on the road to Collingwood\u2026west side between Duntroon and Collingwood. &nbsp; Nearly all gone now. &nbsp;Buildings sat there forlorn for<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">two decades &nbsp;or longer. Then a couple of years &nbsp;ago The house was<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">demolished but the barn still stands with the ghostly wreck of the giant threshing machine still standing on the threshing floor visible to passersby on the Collingwood &nbsp;road<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">since<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">many of the barn siding has been blown off by the winds of time.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Robert Root and I visited the site\u2026with permission\u2026sort of permission that is to say.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cHey, Rooter, let\u2019s ask the farm across the sideroad if we can go in to take some pictures.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cAre they the owners?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cDon\u2019t rightly know.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cCould Rooter and I take some pics of that\u2019d abandoned farm?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cWe are not the owners.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cWe won\u2019t touch a thing.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cSuppose that is your business\u2026not mine\u2026go ahead.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cWhy has the place been abandoned\u2026looks like it was once grand\u2026\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cDispute over the will\u2026No one quite sure who owns &nbsp;what so no one can touch nothin\u2019\u2026or so we\u2019ve been told.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cUs? &nbsp;Promise not to touch a thing. &nbsp;Rooter is a Baptist\u2026honest as the driven snow.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cNot my business.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">So &nbsp;Rooter and I walked through the tall grass to the house and then out to the barn. &nbsp;No sign of life but lots<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">of evidence of a life that was once lived here. &nbsp;Books, letters, newspaper collection\u2026phone book. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cHey Rooter, look here. &nbsp;There\u2019s even a section of the house for the hired man\u2026at the back\u2026separate.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cCould be a hired &nbsp;woman, &nbsp;Alan.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cReckon?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cBarn is full of things\u2026Thresher, fanning mill, single horse plough, root pulper\u2026.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cAnd the water pump still works\u2026want a sip\u2026a little brown.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">And that was an hour that both Rooter and I will never forget. &nbsp;Sad. Tragic. &nbsp;Like a love affair gone bad.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cDid you see any &nbsp;goats, Alan?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cNope. did you?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cNope\u2026supposed to be ghost here, you know.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">WE MISSED THE GHOST\u2026HE WAS OUT BACK WITH THE HARNESS\u2026GETTING READY TO HARNESS &nbsp;UP HORSES\u2026THE GHOST WAS THERE.
