      I am not sure I should tell this story.  Some readers will not see the humour<\/div>\n
      and might be offended at the crude incident.   I know when it happened I did not know what was the<\/div>\n
      appropriate reaction.  Laughter? Disturbed facial expression?  Pretend it never happened and get<\/div>\n
      on with the show.?<\/div>\n

      THE SETTING:  Parent\u2019s night for the 38th Boy Scout Troop.  Entertainment by the 38th Rover Crew<\/div>\n

      <\/div>\n
      Runnymede Presbyterian Church trusted us.  We had a young congregation with dozens of young people<\/div>\n
      who actually came to church.  Once or twice a year Reverend Currie even asked a young person to<\/div>\n
      deliver the sermon.  Imagine that.  We tried not to disappoint.<\/div>\n

      <\/div>\n
      On this particular evening I had the job of being MC.  Let me put this event in dialogue form.<\/div>\n

      <\/div>\n
      \u201cGood evening parents of the 38th,\u2026\u201d<\/div>\n
      (the lights in he hall dimmed.  Dinner plates had been collected)<\/div>\n
      \u201cTonight we have a special guest.   Ernie Sutcliffe is a member<\/div>\n
      of the Toronto Police Force and a friend of our Rover Crew.\u201d<\/div>\n
      (Ernie steps from behind the curtain\u2026polite applause)<\/div>\n
      Ernie has agreed to show us how to do the Fireman\u2019s Lift.  In tough situations like<\/div>\n
      a burning house fire it is necessary for an officer to act fast to say<\/div>\n
      lives.  He will demonstrate how to get a person lying prone on the<\/div>\n
      ground up onto his shoulders fast and efficiently.\u201d<\/div>\n

      \u201cfirst thing we need Alan, is a volunteer\u201d<\/div>\n
      \u201cBoy Scout Bob Denny has agreed.<\/div>\n
      \u201cOK, Bob, just lie down on the stage on your back.\u201d<\/div>\n
      \u201cLike this?\u201d<\/div>\n
      \u201cCorrect\u2026you can even close you eyes.\u201d<\/div>\n

      \u201cNow watch closely everyone\u2026The Fireman\u2019s Lift\u2026works every time.\u201d<\/div>\n

      \u201cShow us, Ernie.\u201d<\/div>\n

      <\/div>\n
      \u201cI just reach down and grab him by the crotch like this\u2026.\u201d<\/div>\n

      In lightning speed Bob Denny flew into the air\u2026using his own muscles\u2026<\/div>\n
      and Erne caught him , flipped Denny onto his shoulder and strode off<\/div>\n
      the stage.   It happened faster than I could blink.  Ernie grabbed poor<\/div>\n
      Bob Denny by the balls and Denny jumped as high as Ernie\u2019s shoulder.<\/div>\n

      I was flabbergasted.  How would all those parents react.<\/div>\n

      <\/div>\n
      No worry there.  They were hooting and laughing \u2026<\/div>\n

      <\/div>\n
      Someday I will get the nerve to ask a cop\u2026a Metro member of<\/div>\n
      Toronto\u2019s finest\u2026whether that is really the way they do the Fireman\u2019s<\/div>\n
      Lift.   At the time I could not ask Ernie who left he church chuckling.<\/div>\n

      I am not sure how Bob Denny felt about the show.  Ernie was never<\/div>\n
      a member of our crew.  He showed up now and then.  <\/div>\n
