EPISODE 299   DAMAGE RAVENS DO TO ME<\/p>\n

It is enough to make me cry.   The ravens.   A pair of them have built<\/div>\n
their huge nest of corse sticks high above my  fanning mills.  Sort of hidden but<\/div>\n
I knew they were there.   Having a pair of nesting ravens  return<\/div>\n
year after year to set, hatch and rear their young seemed  quite an<\/div>\n
honour.     <\/div>\n

I hardly know they are up there.  Just the odd bit of scratching.<\/div>\n
No hoarse raven calls.  that will come later when the babies are<\/div>\n
near full grown.  Right now all is quiet.  Our so I thought.<\/div>\n

Today I discovered  why they are so  quiet.  They have spent the winter<\/div>\n
and spring months dropping great slurry turds on my prize fanning mills.<\/div>\n
which  were hidden behind some crates  I never really looked behind<\/div>\n
the crates  lest I disturb the ravens.   I believed ravens were intelligent<\/div>\n
creatures\u2026most intelligent creatures.   Wonderful  stories are <\/div>\n
written about ravens.  First Nations people on our west coach<\/div>\n
consider ravens very smart\u2026but also very wily.<\/div>\n

\u201cThey are tricksters,\u201d so the legends say.<\/div>\n
\u201cHow true!\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cThey have spent the winter dropping their turds  straight down<\/div>\n
on my best fanning mills.\u201d<\/div>\n

They  have been quiet.  Not because they are embarrassed at their toilet functions.<\/div>\n
They have been quietly laughing at me.  \u201cEvery time Alan comes into the drive shed<\/div>\n
he looks up at our nest.  He never looks behind the crates.  His prize fanning mills<\/div>\n
are steadily being filled with our crap.  And  he doesn\u2019t know\u2026doesn\u2019t even suspect.<\/div>\n
He thinks he is such a nice guy.  Giving us a place to nest.   Patronizing us.  We will<\/div>\n
make a fool of him.  Drop another load.   Our dung looks like whitewash.  those<\/div>\n
red fanning mills are now festooned in streaks of white\u2026piles of white.<\/div>\n
We have tricked him \u2026made a fool of him.<\/div>\n

Woody  was  quite relaxed about the situation.  He had an \u201cIt told you so\u201d look<\/div>\n
as he watched me me use a scraper to get the big lumps of excrement removed.<\/div>\n
And then the  water and brush to get the steaks of white excrement from everything else.<\/div>\n
\u201cAlan, the ravens do not want you as a friend.  <\/div>\n
They are bullies\u2026they want to make you look like a fool.<\/div>\n
And that they have achieved.\u201d   <\/div>\n

It took all afternoon to clean just one fanning mill.   I have five or six sitting under the raven nest.<\/div>\n
Now I know what the First Nations people mean when they say Ravens are tricksters.  <\/div>\n

\u201cNever trust a raven, Alan\u201d<\/div>\n
Why not?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cBecause they will treat you like dirt.\u201d<\/div>\n
