{"id":681,"date":"2018-03-03T11:50:09","date_gmt":"2018-03-03T16:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/?p=681"},"modified":"2018-03-23T13:12:04","modified_gmt":"2018-03-23T17:12:04","slug":"water-divining-snake-in-the-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/?p=681","title":{"rendered":"Water Divining&#8230;SNAKE IN  THE  WELL"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>WATER DIVINING: \u00a0WHY?<\/p>\n<div class=\"\">\n<p>(FOUND SNAKE IN THE OLD \u00a0WELL)<\/p>\n<div class=\"\">alan skeoch<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">March \u00a02018<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">To find \u00a0underground water is about as easy as water sluicing off a Duck\u2019s back. \u00a0So \u00a0here are a few tips for anyone interested. \u00a0My wife says very few people \u00a0are interested \u00a0in these stories but I will persist anyway.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\">Here is \u00a0a picture \u00a0of our son Andrew, doing water divining. \u00a0Not sure \u00a0if he is a believer. \u00a0That silly grin seems \u00a0to indicate scepticism.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-727\" src=\"http:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/snake-well-1024x674.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/snake-well-1024x674.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/snake-well-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/snake-well-768x505.jpg 768w, https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/snake-well.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\">1) Get a two pieces of fence wire two or three feet long\u2026heavier gauge wire than a coat hanger. \u00a0(but try \u00a0coat hangers if you wish)<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">2) Bend \u00a01\/3 of the wires into \u00a090 degree angles<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">3) Hold the wires parallel to each other about chest high as<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">illustrated by Andrew above.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">4) \u00a0Walk around and search \u00a0for water\u2026keep an eye on the wires<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">5) Hold them loosely so that they can swivel but tight enough \u00a0to keep them parallel<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">6) When the wires \u00a0cross \u00a0you have found water.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">7) Do it again a couple \u00a0of times just to confirm the wires moved without you actually moving them\u2026or the wind \u00a0moving them.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">8) Start digging\u2026or hire a well driller and \u00a0show him the spot.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">We did it for our new well. First, I had Gordon Metcalfe do the divining as he was \u00a0a \u00a0believer and \u00a0I was a bit sceptical. \u00a0But we needed \u00a0a new clean well as the old hand \u00a0dug well had crawling things living in it. \u00a0Even a \u00a0big snake which I rescued. \u00a0\u201cHey, down there, I am lowering this basket by a rope\u2026crawl in and \u00a0I;ll\u00a0get out of the well\u2026hear \u00a0me?\u201d \u00a0And the snake did just that then squirmed \u00a0away down toward \u00a0the \u00a0pond where at that time there were frogs to eat. \u00a0Of course the snake may have come back. \u00a0He or she may have \u00a0been living in the well for years. \u00a0Lots of other living things came up with the well water often, especially in summer when Grandma \u00a0said \u00a0\u201cJust close your eyes and \u00a0drink, a few bugs won\u2019t hurt you\u201d \u00a0She \u00a0lived \u00a0well into her 90\u2019s so \u00a0she may well \u00a0have \u00a0been correct. \u00a0All the \u00a0same, it took some \u00a0gumption to swallow those<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">little bugs.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">So after Grandma and Grandpa died and the snake was rescued, I \u00a0had Cousin Gordon Metcalfe do his divining\u2026miraculous work. \u00a0Then I hired \u00a0a \u00a0well driller with his \u00a0truck, \u00a0drill and tall gantry.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cWhere do \u00a0you want me to drill?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cRight here, where my cousin said there is water.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cHow \u00a0did \u00a0he know?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cWater divining!\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cRight\u2026looks \u00a0like a good place to drill.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cHow \u00a0do you know?\u201d, I asked as it seemed \u00a0the well driller was also a believer in water diving.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cNo overhanging \u00a0trees.\u201d \u00a0he said \u00a0looking up in the sky.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cNO OVERHANING TREES!\u201d \u00a0(made me laugh)<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cTREE BRANCHES GET IN THE WAY OF THE GANTRY.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cWhat about the water diviner, cousin Gordon?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cBelieve what you will\u2026I do a \u00a0lot of wells pinpointed by a water diviner.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cDo you get water?&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cYes, around here you can drill anywhere and hit water\u2026does \u00a0not matter where.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cAny water yet?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cYep, \u00a0down 40 feet\u2026hit water\u2026want me to go deeper?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cNot necessary.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">So we got lots \u00a0of water. \u00a0Maybe should have gone deeper tough for the water has \u00a0a bit of \u00a0sulphur and lots \u00a0of lime\u2026hard water as \u00a0they say. \u00a0No snakes\u2026no bugs. \u00a0 \u00a0Last year on the \u00a0other farm Andrew hired a \u00a0driller \u00a0who drilled down \u00a0over 100 feet and got beautiful water that\u00a0spewed \u00a0forth like a city hydrant. \u00a0Must have hit an \u00a0underground \u00a0aquifer or a hidden lake\u2026same \u00a0thing. \u00a0No bugs \u00a0No snakes.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Do you believe in water divining?<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">ARE YOU A BELIEVER?<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WATER DIVINING: \u00a0WHY?
