The back part of our farm is a forest\u2026dense.  We rarely go back that far<\/div>\n
because the front ten  acres keeps us busy.  We also take comfort in<\/div>\n
the fact that the 15 acres of dense bush  and swamp are perfect places<\/div>\n
for wildlife to thrive.  So it came as quite a  shock in October 2010 when<\/div>\n
our boys said we better get back and take a look at what was  happening.<\/div>\n

We bashed our way through the bush.  There are only deer trails here <\/div>\n
and there.  Someone or some group knew that.   What we found<\/div>\n
was a wood trough which turned  out to be a deer feeding station.<\/div>\n
But there was more.  <\/div>\n

The so called hunters had wired a ladder and platform to a tree<\/div>\n
about ten feet from the trough.  This was not a cheap thing.<\/div>\n
Very well built shooting platform made  of heavy aluminum with<\/div>\n
rubber treads.  <\/div>\n

About 30 or 40 feet distant we found a night vision camera<\/div>\n
strapped to a tree on what must have been  a deer trail.<\/div>\n

So that is what hunters do, I guess.   They climb up into<\/div>\n
the tree platform and sit there waiting for deer to come<\/div>\n
to feed on the corn or food pellets on the wood trough<\/div>\n
\u2026and then they shoot them.  And  they call that hunting.<\/div>\n
No  guesswork involve since the night vision camera automatically<\/div>\n
tells them the time the deer will arrive\u2026their numbers.  The <\/div>\n
hunter can pick his kill at leisure  at home then pick a nice<\/div>\n
time to do the killing based on the camera information.<\/div>\n

And  all this was done on our land.   No one asked permission.  They would<\/div>\n
have been refused.  I have no respect for guns or for hunting.  But the<\/div>\n
nerve of these hunters to just assume they could set up their<\/div>\n
killing spot in our forest.   Trespassing.   We had not littered our<\/div>\n
land with NO Trespassing or No Hunting signs.  Why would we have<\/div>\n
to do that anyway?   <\/div>\n

What should we do? First, we tore  down the shooting platform and<\/div>\n
carried it to the road where  we keep  scrap metal.  Then we unstrapped<\/div>\n
the camera and  took it to our neighbour.  Told him the story.<\/div>\n

He seemed interested:<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
\u201cI figure they got to our bush from your back field.”<\/div>\n
\u201cYes,I do allow a couple of hunters from the city to hunt\u2026but No,<\/div>\n
I  did not know about the platform or the trespassing.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cThis must be their camera.  I want you to give it back<\/div>\n
to them. Do you see them often? \u201c<\/div>\n
\u201cNo.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cWill you take the camera?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cYes, they might drop by.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cTell them we have contacted  the police and have<\/div>\n
put up NO TRESPASSING SIGNS\u2026and  one other thing.<\/div>\n
Tell them I do  not want to see them.  We will never  meet.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cI will do that.\u201d<\/div>\n

This conversation was  not what it seemed.   I knew that my neighbour <\/div>\n
must have known these hunters really well.  They parked on his land.<\/div>\n
I even suspected that the hunters were not from the \u201ccity\u201d but may<\/div>\n
well have been  very local\u2026nearby in other words.  If I met them<\/div>\n
personally there would be deep repercussions.  Best  not tp alienate<\/div>\n
people with guns.  I had  raised enough hell  anyway.<\/div>\n

How  did the police react?   No help whatsoever.<\/div>\n

P.S>  A few months  later a neighbour asked  if  I still had the ladder and<\/div>\n
shooting platform\u2026started with friendly blather and eventually got to the <\/div>\n
Point.   \u201cSorry, the shooting platform has  gone to the scrap yard” (where<\/div>\n
it belonged).<\/div>\n
