a gut feeling.<\/div>\n

Quite by chance while shopping in Marjorie\u2019s favourite store\u2026The Salvation Army Thrift Store.<\/div>\n
I nosed through  the book collection,\u2026drawn to an odd book titled <\/div>\n
\u2018Hilbilly Elegy  by  J.D. Vance.     An unknown person to me.<\/div>\n
The subject was  industrial towns like Middletown, Ohio,which had<\/div>\n
become wastelands as factories departed for cheap labour elsewhere in the world.<\/div>\n
leaving behind the so called Rust Bellt … American States orbiting around Ohio.<\/div>\n

I paid little attention to the author, J.D. Vance, but found the book interesting as a fist person<\/div>\n
account  of the kind of working class Americans left in the rust belt cities.  <\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
The name J. D. Vance has suddenly become a household word as <\/div>\n
he is now Donald Trump\u2019s choice as running mate for the Republican Party’s presidential election.<\/div>\n
His speech at the convention was larded  with comments about his personal life in the <\/div>\n
Rust  Belt\/.  Much of it tragic.  Yet much of it heroic as well.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Vance was not a lifelong Republican.  His roots are as much Democrat.    Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat ,  <\/div>\n
was admired by the Vance family.  <\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Why did Trump choose J  D  Vance as his running mate?   Was the choice brilliant? Was the choice risky?<\/div>\n
Time  will tell.<\/div>\n
