OUR KITTEN CHOSE ITS HOME HIGH ATOP THE WASHER DRIER IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
We live in Mississauga on what was once land owned by the Mississuagas.<\/div>\n
As a result the house lots on our street are unusual.   Huge.  Ours is 55 feet x 400 feet.  Lots of big trees<\/div>\n
and scrub underbrush…we even have a small stream casually working its way to Lake Ontario and<\/div>\n
a great swath of unmanicured forest.   Inshort the back of our lots look like they have always been <\/div>\n
wild.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
A den of coyotes have taken up residence for years.  BolD at times.  But not with me for<\/div>\n
I carry a gun which I bought for a couple of bucks at the Dollar Store complete with several<\/div>\n
strips of ammunition.  I wear it on my hip for a fast draw if the coyotes decide to attack Woody<\/div>\n
 a couple of pops scares them off.  That only happened once..    <\/div>\n
 Woody found out the hard way that coyotes regarded him as a meal when one took a swipe at<\/div>\n
his ass.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
There are no cats near our house any more.  Cat owners keep their cats in their houses.<\/div>\n
Those that get free have  a short life.  We may even have lost Taranga that way.  She was found<\/div>\n
dead on the banks of the stream by our son Andrew.  May have been a natural death for<\/div>\n
she was elderly.  Or a coyote that was not hungry  <\/div>\n

Enough said.    Our new cat\u2019s  father was a feral cat moving with stealth<\/div>\n
in Erin Township, we figured his daughter who we call Chelsea Bun (because she looks<\/div>\n
like a Chelsea Bun)\u2026 might be wise enough to keep clear of the coyotes.    <\/div>\n

SO SHE HAS A LEASH\u2026SHE IS NOT FREE<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
\u201cAlan, she must be leashed at all times.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cFine.\u201d  (Marjorie does not trust me.)<\/div>\n
\u201cRemember that.\u201d<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Yesterday, Marjorie did not follow her own advice and let Chelsea Bun go free\u2026dragging her leash behind her.<\/div>\n
Se was free for some time while Marjorie raked leaves.<\/div>\n

\u201cMeeeow\u00a1\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cI hear you Chelsea Bun.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cMeow\u2026Meow!\u201d <\/div>\n
\u201cWhere are you?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cMeow!\u201d<\/div>\n
The cry was distant.<\/div>\n
\u201cMeow!\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cWhere are you?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cMeowww!\u201d<\/div>\n

We have lots of trees\u2026half our<\/div>\n
400 foot lot is a wilderness where coyotes can run free.<\/div>\n
Dangerous placer for a kitten.<\/div>\n

\u201cMeow!\u201d  <\/div>\n
Marjorie spent a lot of time looking for Chelsea Bun until she looked<\/div>\n
up and spotted the red tip of the leash jiggling high up one of<\/div>\n
our cedar trees.   Perhaps 30 feet up, maybe higher\u2026the  leash hanging straight down.<\/div>\n
If she  moved she could easilly hang herself.   <\/div>\n
\u201cHold on!\u201d<\/div>\n
Marjorie tried many things.<\/div>\n
1)She tried to climb the tree\u2026failed<\/div>\n
2) She got a buck saw to cut lower benches\u2026..failed<\/div>\n
3) She got a ladder\u2026too short\u2026fsiled.<\/div>\n
4) She thought of calling neighbour\u2026too dangerous for Hubert\u2026failed<\/div>\n
5) She thought of calling fire department\u2026too foolish\u2026failed<\/div>\n
6) She called son Andrew\u2026he came with a long ladder and <\/div>\n
was juist able to  get his hand around the dangling leash and then<\/div>\n
the back of Chelsea Bun.<\/div>\n
7) Chelsea Bun began to purr\u2026\u201dPurr!\u201d<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Such a minor event unless you are  kitten on a leash high up a cedar tree.<\/div>\n
I wonder whether the coyotes were watching.<\/div>\n
