Confession:  I am addicted to rural AUCTION SALES\u2026have been so for 50 years.<\/div>\n
Thoroughly enjoy these sales.   I m not alone.   Men seem more affected by this<\/div>\n
addiction than women as you will see in this episode.  Just what do we buy.<\/div>\n
Treasures?  Hardly.<\/div>\n

Mr Vogel\u2019s collection of odds and ends were Sold on Oct 21 by<\/div>\n
Gerber Auctions.  Just what was sold?<\/div>\n

The barn is empty now\u2026.it was jammed full ofthngs Mr. Vogel admired<\/div>\n

WHAT DID THESE MEN  BUY?<\/div>\n

Before I can catalogue what the men bought\u2026.it might be helpful see some of the things <\/div>\n
that were up for sale\u2026.the small things.<\/div>\n

Both of these barn builders drills sold for $100 plus 18%\u2026.a good buy if you need holes in barn beams for wooden nails.<\/div>\n

The  huge wheel was once part of a cutting box\u2026sold for $6 and the young man who bought it was ecstatic.<\/div>\n

Marjorie bought the rope, a good hammer and a grease gun which she gave away\u2026she paid $2<\/div>\n

This Buzzsaw sold for $20 and included a deposit left by a raccoon on the movable bed.<\/div>\n

THIS washing machine,, circa 1880 sold for $300 plus 13% tax and  5% auction  fee\u2026.I had considered bidding $30.  But the main reason we drove <\/div>\n
80 km was so I could buy the machine with the iron wheel.  It would look terrific in a 19th century movie.  What did it do?   I have no<\/div>\n
idea but several bidders must have known \u2026 sold to a high bid of $370.  We failed.  Correction, I failed even though Marjorie encouraged me to<\/div>\n
keep bidding.  <\/div>\n
she must think money grows on trees..<\/div>\n

\u201cAlan, we drove for two hours, spent $60 or more on gas\u2026and bought nothing.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cNot quite nothing\u2026.but darn close to nothing.  The people and the ambience was worth the trip.”<\/div>\n

collection.  Ours?  Did I say \u2018ours\u2019?  Indeed I did.  Marjorie came with me and was shocked to discover there was absolutley nothing that<\/div>\n
she wanted. She bid anyway and got  a $2 bargain\u2026.rope, hammer and grease gun.<\/div>\n

“I needed you to drive the car while I navigated.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cI really thought that by following Mennonite buggy we would find the auction.:<\/div>\n
\u201cSome drove bycicles\u2026.Other Mennonites were just exercising horses.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cEventually we found one buggy heading south to the auction.<\/div>\n

MR VOGEL WAS A COLLECTOR OBVIOUSLY AND HE WOULD BE PLEASED THAT SO MANY COLLECTORS CAME TO HIS AUCTION.<\/div>\n

WAS THE TRIP WORTHWHILE?   IT WAS TERRIFIC.   WE MET SOME INTERESTING PEOPLE AND ONE PERSISTENT LITTLE <\/div>\n
MENNONITE BOY WHO WAS FASCINATED BY MY CAMERA AND TRIED TO GET IN EVERY PICTURE.   I WAS THE ONLY PERSON<\/div>\n
TO RECORD THE AUCTION.  MENNONITES DISLIKE CAMERAS BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE PHOTOGRAPHY IS AN INDICATION OF<\/div>\n
VANITY.  PERHAPS THEY ARE RIGHT.<\/div>\n
