Why? &nbsp;Because her rescue was done by&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&nbsp;the creatures on earth. &nbsp; There exists harmony between humans and all living things<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">in this creation story. &nbsp;Seems a nicer CREATION STORY&nbsp;&nbsp;than Adam and Eve.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"D4BBD804-FD5F-45DC-B975-9E2FB083ADFC\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/67A2FE50-6A45-4F8E-BB00-99B4CF580BFC_1_201_a.jpeg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">SKY WOMAN<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">An excerpt from a book you will never read<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">titled YOUR HOME ON NATIVE LAND, a book I wrote in the hope<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">it would improve young &nbsp;Canadians understanding of &nbsp;our native people.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">The book never got that chance.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"F2CA5384-4064-4475-894D-4EF48641BD5A\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/83A20EA2-BA36-42FF-B62F-A1F6D3417798_1_105_c.jpeg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cWhere did we come from?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cHow did we get here?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cWhat was the FIRST CAUSE?<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cCan something be created from nothing?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Questions such as these have bedevilled thinking people . &nbsp;These questions do not seem<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">to have bedevilled non-thikeers as much. &nbsp;So I write this for thinkers.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">When I wrote YOUR HOME ON NATIVE LAND some time ago the trigger mechanism in<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">my brain was the Turtle legend common to many aboriginal peoples in eastern North America.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">It is a story\u2026a legend\u2026.a myth\u2026a \u2018belief\u2019 that makes more sense than Adam and Eve<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">because the story is in harmony with other living creatures on planet earth.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Initially, like Adam and Eve, the \u2018giant Turtle\u2019 story was told orallly and therefore changed a&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">little with each telling. &nbsp;But the essence never changed, The story was recorded in print after the arrival of Europeans.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Relatively recently.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">No doubt my version differs from other versions. &nbsp;So be it. &nbsp;I write this as if it was told tome by a wise<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">aboriginal leader. &nbsp;A woman.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">IN THE BEGINNING<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cIn the beginning\u201d the earth was covered in water. &nbsp;There was no land.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">The gods lived in peace abed the clouds with covered the earth.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">One day a tree fell over and poked a hole one clouds.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Sky Woman was &nbsp;curious and she peeked through the hole at the watery<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">earth below. &nbsp; She leaned over too far and fell through the hole in the clouds.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">She was falling faster and faster when a loon saw her. &nbsp; The loon flew under and<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Sky Woman landed on the loon\u2019s back.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"339DF4F7-0690-4C55-9F1C-BA9C8D7A3AE7\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/68C60025-8C50-42FB-AF9D-D5F8CDAC7BB0_1_105_c.jpeg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">She was heavy and the loon cried out to the creatures below for help lest Sky Woman drown.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">The Great &nbsp;Turtle told the Loon to \u2018let Sky Woman land on my back\u2019&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">But the back of the turtle was too small so the turtle gathered all the&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">living &nbsp;creatures in the watery world for a conference.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cSky Woman needs more space.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"A15071A6-507A-4B5A-BC62-4E96EC0883C3\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/61531C38-8AC3-4879-B362-3EAEEA55C119_1_105_c.jpeg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">And so the water animals\u2026the loon, goose, beaver, otter and muskrat began to dive&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">down deep in the water world. &nbsp; \u2018They tried to reach the muddy bottom<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">They tried often but failed. &nbsp; Then the lowliest of the water animals, the<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">muskrat, made one last effort. &nbsp; The muskrat dived deep\u2026too deep<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">to keep alive \u2026.but, in the muskrat\u2019s last living act clutch a paw of<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">mud which was carried to the top of the water.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"153E4F90-93D5-4111-9867-4A49EC6B8D8E\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/DD63952E-1574-40D2-A3A0-189B08C6ACB5_1_105_c.jpeg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">The other water animals opened the muscrat\u2019s paw where it&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">clutched a ball of mud. &nbsp;\u201cWhat should we do?\u201d &nbsp;they asked.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Then the wise old turtle said. &nbsp; \u201cPress the mud on the edge of my<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">body.\u201d &nbsp;And when they did so the mud began to grow larger<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">an larger unitil &nbsp;the back of the turtle became the land we know<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">today.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">WHERE DID OTHER HUMANS ORIGNATE?<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Sky Woman was piegnant when she fell. &nbsp; In time she bore two<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">sons. &nbsp;The sons did not like each other. &nbsp; One son was good<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">and one was bad. &nbsp;They fought bitterly and &nbsp;the bad son<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">nearly killed the good son. &nbsp;Both lived&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">As might be expected various speakers in an oral society<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">would make changes But the essence of the story is still intact<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-a water covered plant&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-gods living above the clouds<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-a fall through a hole in the clouds<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-Sky Woman falling<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-rescue by a loon or a goose<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u2014haven provided by the Great Turtle<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-need for living space&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-all animals attempt to get mud<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&nbsp;&#8211; most fail<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-lowly muskrat succeeds&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-mud multiplies to become land in the watery world\u2019<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-Sky Woman was pregnant and had two sons<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-one son was good, the other was evil&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">-they fight<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">STORIES OF CREATION ALL ORIIGINATED AS ORAL STORIES TOLD OVER AND OVER AGAIN.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">EVENTUALLY THEY WERE TRANSCRIBED AS WITH THE BOOK OF GENESIS AROUND &nbsp;500 BC<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">OR IN THE TIME OF NOAH&#8230;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">AND &nbsp;THE ABORIGINAL CREATION STOIES &nbsp;TRASCRIBED BY EUROPENS IN HE 19TH CENTURY.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">BOOK OF GENESIS<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span style=\"caret-color: rgb(32, 33, 34); color: rgb(32, 33, 34); font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 14px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" class=\"\">Genesis 1:1 forms the basis for the Judeo-Christian doctrine of creation out of nothing (<\/span><i style=\"caret-color: rgb(32, 33, 34); These sources were collected from Native American elders who still had strong connections to the traditions of their ancestors.
