Our wild crab apple tree  has had no care in its 50 or so year life.  Nondescript is a word that<\/div>\n
suits the tree.  It grew on the old barn hill about the time the barn fell down.  A apple kind of<\/div>\n
phoenix\u2026something good from something lost.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Today I drove our ATV under the sprawling apple loaded branches and in 15 minutes filled <\/div>\n
a pail with bright red crab apples. <\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
 \u201cI want the reddest crab apples, Alan, they will give <\/div>\n
the colour to our apple jelly.\u201d<\/div>\n

And that was the end of my labour.  The rest was done by Marjorie who managed to get <\/div>\n
five small jars of crab apple jelly from half a pail of apples\u2026.<\/div>\n

\u201cTake off the stems, leaves and watch for worm holes.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cThere are no worms, Marjorie\u2026.every crab apple is perfect.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cDid you pick them all?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cNo\u2026I got half a pail of apples from one single branch. The tree<\/div>\n
is loaded..   Do you want me to pick more?  \u201c<\/div>\n
\u201cNo more\u2026.the real work is converting the apples into jelly, that will<\/div>\n
take hours.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cI did my part\u202615 minutes.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cAnd my part will take a good part of the day.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cHow much  jelly did you get?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cSix small jars\u2026bright red crab  apple jelly.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cDo not give any away, we can spend part of the winter eating the jelly with toast and butter.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cYou are so self centred.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cThey are my apples.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cWhat have you done to help the tree\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cI parked three old horse drawn mowing machines under the tree\u2026.great long  rusted <\/div>\n
mower blades will dissuade any thieves\u2026the cutters are hidden in the golden rod<\/div>\n
that ring around  the tree.  \u201c<\/div>\n
