{"id":25341,"date":"2023-09-13T12:04:29","date_gmt":"2023-09-13T16:04:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/?p=25341"},"modified":"2023-09-13T12:09:39","modified_gmt":"2023-09-13T16:09:39","slug":"episode-876-marjorie-finds-a-puff-balland-we-ate-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/?p=25341","title":{"rendered":"EPISODE 876     MARJORIE FINDS A PUFF BALL\u2026AND WE  ATE IT"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">NOTE TO READERS: &nbsp;WE HAVE BEEN SUPER BUSY LATELY..<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">SORRY IF OUR ABSENCE HAS MEANT YOU HAVE NO BED TIME STORY.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<p>EPISODE 876 &nbsp; &nbsp; MARJORIE FINDS A PUFF BALL\u2026AND WE &nbsp;ATE IT<\/p>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">alan skeoch<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">SEPTEBER 13, 2032<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cALAN, LOOK WHAT I FOUND.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201c GIANT &nbsp; PUFF BALL\u2026WHERE WAS IT?<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cIN THE DITCH\u2026DO YOU THINK IT \u2019S EDIBLE?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"7ED1FFF4-F7A9-437A-9890-F1BD7660E479\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_3345-rotated.jpg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"3CB7D6EF-E3E5-4CA6-8A52-3D3DC4A31028\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_3346-rotated.jpg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">WE ATE AFEW SKICES IF THIS PUFF BALL<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Puff ball mushrooms are very strange. &nbsp;They appear suddenly almost anywhere and<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">grow immense in short time. &nbsp; And they are edilble but be careful. &nbsp;They are only<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">edible when very young,,,,when all white. &nbsp;Totally white inside and spongy.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">OLD PUFF BALLS LOOK LIKE UGLY VOMIT<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">No one in their right mind would eve eat an old puffball because they look sick\u2026ugly<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">internal contents become sickly green &#8230; the colour of fresh vomit. &nbsp; Even a&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">complete fool would not touch &nbsp;a mature puffball. &nbsp; If it is kicked like &nbsp;football&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">a cloud of spores burst forth. &nbsp; Old puff balls are ghastly.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">But young puff balls are as pretty as fresh bread. &nbsp; And look like fresh bread.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">They can be sliced like fresh bread using a good sharp bread knife. &nbsp;Use a gentle saw like action. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Peel the thin rubber like crust and the puff ball is ready for the frying pan..<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Easiest way to eat a puff ball is to put some butter in the frying pan, then add the slices<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">of the puff ball. &nbsp;Sprinkle with salt nd pepper. &nbsp; Garlic salt is best\u2026gives best flavour.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Fry until both sides are golden brown or even darker brown. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Then eat the slices like you would French Toast or pan cakes.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">What do they taste like? &nbsp;Rather bland. &nbsp;Very bland. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Today Marjorie&#8217;s puff ball tased like garlic salt.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">alan<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Note: &nbsp;Mushroom hunting is tricky.. &nbsp;Some mushrooms are good. &nbsp;Some are bad\u2026very bad.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Fresh puff balls are really good. &nbsp;Old puff balls are disgusting. &nbsp;It\u2019s easy to tell the difference.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"56A5C9FD-BAF5-4A96-A0BF-982667A6C51A\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_3347-rotated.jpg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"A650EA98-469A-411C-B7D8-EC8E6BDEA70B\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/IMG_4961.jpeg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">SOME OTHER PUFF BALL RECIPES.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 5px 0px 37px; padding: 0px; caret-color: rgb(1, 1, 1); color: rgb(1, 1, 1); font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, \"Segoe UI\", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, \"Apple Color Emoji\", \"Segoe UI Emoji\", \"Segoe UI Symbol\"; letter-spacing: 0.5px;\" class=\"\">You can also cook up large slices of puffball and freeze them to use as the base for wonderful gluten-free pizzas (see below). Or try the convenience of breading the raw puffball with the parmigiana breading below and freeze them. Pull them out later, fry them and bake them for a quick pre-prepared dinner. Puffball Fries freeze up equally well. Pull them out of the freezer and in 15 minutes you&#8217;ll have crispy fries to dip in your favourite sauce &#8211; a great appetizer or snack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 5px 0px 37px; padding: 0px; caret-color: rgb(1, 1, 1); color: rgb(1, 1, 1); font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, \"Segoe UI\", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, \"Apple Color Emoji\", \"Segoe UI Emoji\", \"Segoe UI Symbol\"; letter-spacing: 0.5px;\" class=\"\">Cooked puffball has a texture kind of like tofu, but more soft and melting (a bit like a sugarless marshmallow). You can use puffball just like you would tofu and most other mushrooms in recipes.
