Long long ago I began buying old historical photographs.   Then  got interested in other<\/div>\n
things in life.   Forgot about my photos until Marjorie got into a clean up mood.<\/div>\n
Hence these two mounted pictures of the students of Parkdale Collegiate Institute <\/div>\n
were found again\u2026.which I will give to John Maize for the PCI archives.<\/div>\n

But first look at the boys in the photo and imagine the life he faced in the 20th century<\/div>\n
(then look at the girls the same way)<\/div>\n

THE STORY OF \u2018SEVEN\u2019 SMITH, A STUDENT THEN ADULT IN  THE 20TH CENTURY<\/div>\n

MY name is Steven.  Nicknamed \u201cSeven\u201d.  I was born in 1900.   Little did I know that my life would<\/div>\n
be so miserable.  There is an old adage \u2026.MAY YOU LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES.<\/div>\n
MY life has been a constant flow of interesting times.  Not pleasant really.<\/div>\n

NAME   STEVEN \u201cSEVEN\u201d SMITH (fictional)  born 1900 ,,, follow decades of my life below.<\/div>\n

I was seven in 1907 <\/div>\n
    -1914 World war One began\u2026poison gas, trench warfare, death and decay<\/div>\n
I was 17 in 1917<\/div>\n
    -turned 18  joined army\u2026horrors unending..<\/div>\n
   -1919 Spanish Flu\u2026global pandemic<\/div>\n
I was 27 in 1927\u2026.<\/div>\n
    Then in 1929 the stock market crashed<\/div>\n
   -no jobs, no income, no chance of normal life<\/div>\n
  -Great Depression<\/div>\n
  -no chance of marriage<\/div>\n
I was 37 in 1937<\/div>\n
  -then two years later in 1939 World War II broke out<\/div>\n
  -I was young enough to volunteer\u2026.air force gunner Bomber command\u2026.fear of death daily<\/div>\n
I was 47 in 1947<\/div>\n
  -atom bomb and Cold War made life on earth chancy\u2026.Strontium 90<\/div>\n
 -Korean War<\/div>\n
  -built bomb shelter\u2026felt hopeless<\/div>\n
I was 57 in 1957<\/div>\n
  -Strategic Ar Command keeps Bomb laden B 52\u2019s in air all the time<\/div>\n
  -got a brief glimpse of the good life\u2026bought a car<\/div>\n
  -debts<\/div>\n
I was 67 in 1967<\/div>\n
  -centennial <\/div>\n
   -retired with small pension<\/div>\n
  -small apartment\u2026health problems<\/div>\n
I was 77 in 1977<\/div>\n
  -retirement home<\/div>\n
1 was 87 in 1987<\/div>\n
  -end of story<\/div>\n

NOW suppose “Seven\u201d Smith was one of the girls in the photograph, would her life be more or<\/div>\n
less miserable?<\/div>\n

OF COURSE THIS NEVER HAPPENED AND MOST PEOPLE FOUND JOY IN THEIR LIVES IN<\/div>\n
