It is a mood piece. &nbsp;The carvings are real \u2026.from the Scourge and the Hamilton warships\u2026<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">sunk in a storm during &nbsp;the war of 1812&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">The bottom of Lake Ontario is littered with the wrecks of old schooners of which Scourge<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">and the Hamilton (war of 1812) are the most famous because both Schooners sit upright in 88 metres of&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">water at he west end of Lake Ontario. &nbsp;They are a museum that we will never see but<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">they are there for us to imagine. &nbsp; They sit on a bed of Ordovician shale in which fossils<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">of ancient life are imbedded.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" jsaction=\"VQAsE\" class=\"r48jcc iPVvYb pT0Scc\" style=\"max-width: 1133px; margin: 0px;\" alt=\"North America's Inland Sea - HubPages\" jsname=\"kn3ccd\" aria-hidden=\"false\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"BBD8D6A0-AF7A-42A2-9ACB-9B6EC9192D2E\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/northamericainlandsea.jpeg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Millions of years ago NORTH AMERICA was two large islands\u2026between the islands was an Inland Sea some 500 feet deep<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/p>\n<blockquote type=\"cite\" class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"gmail_quote\" style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 0.8ex; border-left-width: 1px; border-left-style: solid; border-left-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); padding-left: 1ex;\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"word-wrap: break-word; line-break: after-white-space;\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<blockquote type=\"cite\" class=\"\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" class=\"\" style=\"word-wrap: break-word; line-break: after-white-space;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" class=\"\" style=\"word-wrap: break-word; line-break: after-white-space;\">\n<div class=\"\">\u201cThere was no land as we know it today as soil and plants\u2026all above the water was just bare granite and volcanic islands\u2026maybe a little bit of algae growing where<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">the rock met the seas.&nbsp; Noting else.&nbsp; No trees, no plants, no grass and certainly no flowers.&nbsp; But the sea<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">was &nbsp;full of &nbsp;life.&nbsp; Some places the sea bottoms was carpeted with crinoids.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cHow do &nbsp;you know?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cbecause some of these pieces of &nbsp;shale have crinoid fossils so thick that the shale is hard to find. At some<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">point whole populations of crinoids died another bodies &nbsp;settled into the mud only to be changed by chemical<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">action over millions of years into he fossils we can find littered here and there on this &nbsp;shingle beach.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cWhat did they eat?\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\u201cNautiloids &nbsp;were predators.&nbsp; They ate other creatures, especially little trilobites.
