EPISODE 740   A SHOCKING NOTE SENT TO ME TODAY\u2026SCARED ME<\/p>\n

Came home to an empty house today.  Not completely empty for our dog Woody<\/div>\n
was curled up in his bed.  Was I expected to take him for a walk?  No!<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Pulled a chair up to the kitchen counter and began to eat banana and fruit<\/div>\n
lunch that Marjorie left for me.  Nosed through the paper.  Totally at<\/div>\n
ease with the world.<\/div>\n

Then I noticed the brief hand written note on the table.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
\u201cWHERE IS THE LIFE I HAVE LED,?<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
WHERE IS IT NOW?<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
 TOTALLY DEAD<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
WHERE IS THE FUN I USED TO FIND?<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
WHERE IS IT NOW ?<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
GONE WITH THE WIND.\u201d<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Just a a short note from Marjorie  My wife of 60 years.<\/div>\n
What a shock.  I had no idea she was so unhappy.<\/div>\n
The lunch dishes had been placed in the sink for Marjorie to wash.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
I had not been a perfect husband.  Let her do <\/div>\n
the housework\u2026not some but all of the housework for sixty years<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
That includes making all the meals, handing them to me as I read the paper<\/div>\n
or watched the Super Bowl or just sat there waiting for food and drink to<\/div>\n
be put in my hands.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Not only did Marjorie make all the meals<\/div>\n
Marjorie also washed all  the dishes<\/div>\n
  -initially she feared i would break them (which was true early in our marriage)<\/div>\n
She did everything else as well\u2026washing , vacuuming, shopping, bedding,<\/div>\n
You name it, she did it<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
And that included raising the boys.<\/div>\n
I was some use on that score however. Entertainment.  Made wooden fire engine life size<\/div>\n
held 10 kids\u2026did stuff like that.  Things I liked doing.  Self centred stuff.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

Why did she write this note?<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
“WHERE IS THE FUN WE USED TO HAVE<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
TOTALLY DEAD\u201d<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
What did this mean.  Sixty years of an unhappy marriage?  Why<\/div>\n
would Marjorie tell me now.   Maybe Better wash these dishes<\/div>\n
before she gets home.  What else can I do to repair the marriage?<\/div>\n
Not much.  I do not know how to start the washing machine, drier<\/div>\n
or vacuum.  \u201cSorry Marjorie I am left handed and everything<\/div>\n
is in reverse for me.\u201d  To which she responds often, \u201cThen I better<\/div>\n
do it \u2026 you\u2019ll burn the house down so do not ever touch the<\/div>\n
stove.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cGONE WITH THE WIND\u201d<\/div>\n

Why would she write this?  I thought she ws OK with my imperfections.<\/div>\n
I wonder if it\u2019s too late for me to buy some roses for Valentines Day<\/div>\n
tomorrow?  Years ago I bought some plastic roses at Woolworths<\/div>\n
and she handed them back to me.  That ended any effort to be<\/div>\n
romantic.<\/div>\n

Then the door opened. <\/div>\n

  \u201cIs that you Marjorie?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cDid you eat your lunch?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cI did\u2026and found this note\u2026.whar does ir mean?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cWhat note?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cThis one\u2026your handwriting\u2026says something about our <\/div>\n
marriage being \u2018TOTALLY DEAD\u2019\u201d<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
\u201cOh that \u2026not a note \u2026.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cThen what is it?  A lawyers letter?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cNo\u2026(laughing)\u2026those are the words from the movie Kismet<\/div>\n
where Howard Keele is pleading with Kathryn Grayson\u2026.I wrote<\/div>\n
them down as he sang on the TV.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cWell, I thought they were real.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cAnd what did you do?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cI washed up my lunch dish.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cFine (laughter)\u2026Don\u2019t touch the stove\u2026afraid you\u2019ll burn he house down.\u201d<\/div>\n

SO LIFE HAS RETURNED TO NORMAL<\/div>\n
