I believe paratroopers were issued with a sten<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">gun whenever a drop was planned. &nbsp; &nbsp;Sten guns were made in other places but a&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">great number were made In Lakeview, now a suburb of Mississauga.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">WHO WERE THESE GIRLS?<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Around the mid 1990\u2019s or earlier Our historical society organized a reunion of the girls who made the guns at LakeView<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">SMALL ARMS PLANT in World War II.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">They were a feisty bunch who came that evening.. &nbsp;Laughter and tears. &nbsp; Many oF them were 20 &nbsp;years old in 1940 thus in their 70\u2019s<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">when we got them together for the last time. &nbsp;Some got a little emotional To be sure, but my strongest memory is the noise\u2026the joy&#8230;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">as the girls got together for what they knew would be the last time.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">NOTE: &nbsp;I TOOK THESE PICTURES &nbsp;OF THE GRILS\/LADIES BUT NOT THE BLACK AND WHITE<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">MACHINE SHOP PICTURES. &nbsp;I HAVE NOT FOUND THE ARTICLE I WROTE<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">AT THE TIME SO THIS STORY IS INCOMPLETE\u2026.A FRAGMENT SADLY\u2026NO NAMES, NO&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">MEMORIES. &nbsp;SOME READERS WILL KNOW &nbsp;MORE. &nbsp;PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD TO THE STORY.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"BAEAF382-BCB8-45A0-A0E4-33B60B5A76D0\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/C1E12ED8-7FC7-4529-8BBE-28536596EFCF_1_105_c.jpeg\" class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"A8FAC85A-B088-45CC-8857-98C347167A7C\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/34694077-11F9-4D97-9495-72947C0C51CA_1_105_c.jpeg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&nbsp;Miss Francescini &nbsp;( sp?) , daughter of the sand and Gravel<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">company on Cawthra Road was one name I remember.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">I did manage to get some pictures of the laidies along with the machines they operated. &nbsp;and somewhere I<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">have a writen record of the affair.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">What I do remember clearly is how these ladies took over the meeting. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" apple-inline=\"yes\" id=\"B8AB0D28-7A19-4144-AE90-8AF1020B9A65\" src=\"https:\/\/alanskeoch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/C40154D6-5DA1-4A79-B148-CA3A72732E15_1_105_c.jpeg\" class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><br class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">&#8220;<span style=\"caret-color: rgb(68, 68, 68); caret-color: rgb(66, 66, 66); color: rgb(66, 66, 66); white-space: pre-wrap; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" class=\"\">Construction on the Dominion Small Arms Limited munitions factory, including the Inspection Building (then known on the site as Building 12), commenced on August 20, 1940. The first rifles produced here were ready for inspection in June of 1941. At the end of 1941, the factory had 1,200 employees and had made 7,589 rifles. In 1942, the factory was in full production making pistols, Mark II Sten sub-machine guns, Lee Enfield No. 4 rifles, ammunition, and a myriad of other military supplies.
